Green Story

Environmental policy of the Development Center Murska Sobota

The Development Center Murska Sobota (RCMS) has accepted sustainable principles by signing the "Green Policy of Slovenian Tourism", with which it commits itself to sustainable operation and continuous efforts for improvements in the following areas:

  • Connecting with Green Initiatives and Supporting Sustainable Tourism
RCMS actively follows the guidelines of the Slovenian Tourist Board (STO) and collaborates with local and regional tourist organizations to promote green, boutique, and responsible tourism. All our activities and projects focus on preserving natural resources, reducing environmental impacts, and promoting ecological tourism as a fundamental pillar of the local tourism offer.
  • Participation in Sustainable Projects
RCMS participates in numerous sustainable projects that contribute to shaping the green image of Slovenian tourism. Our commitment to the environment is supported by our own environmental certifications, confirming our dedication to sustainable practices, the use of green technologies, and environmental protection.
  • Promoting Sustainable Environmental Regeneration
As the manager of the Expano Regional Promotion Center, we actively engage in the revitalization of degraded areas, such as Lake Soboško. Through sustainable construction and material recycling during the renovation of the Slovenian pavilion, we contribute to green tourism and promote responsible interaction with nature. Expano serves as an example of sustainable architecture and an innovative approach to preserving natural resources.
  • Green Tourism in the Destination
The Slovenia Green Destination label assures visitors to Murska Sobota of a destination based on sustainable principles. Tourism providers and partners in the destination continuously strive to improve the sustainability aspects of their operations and integrate sustainable practices into all their activities.
  • Supporting the Local Environment and Community
All our activities involve local providers, communities, and products, helping to preserve and create new jobs while promoting the local economy. We support the development of local initiatives based on preserving cultural heritage and respecting natural resources.
  • Innovation and Sustainable Technology
We recognize the importance of sustainable innovations, green technologies, and sustainable architecture. We encourage the use of green technologies in all our projects and activities and incorporate green content into tourist products, offering visitors unique and environmentally friendly experiences.
  • Responsible Interaction with Nature
We encourage visitors to act respectfully and responsibly towards Slovenia's natural and social environment. We provide advice on responsible behavior in nature as well as information about local ecological initiatives that enable more sustainable visits.
  • Seasonal and Off-Season Tourism
By offering experience packages and events outside the peak tourist season, we aim to evenly distribute visits across the destination, reducing environmental strain and better distributing economic benefits throughout the year.
  • Encouraging Sustainable Investments
In the destination, we encourage investors to build sustainable tourist facilities that adhere to principles of ecological construction, energy efficiency, and sustainable resource management.
  • Sustainable Mobility
We actively support sustainable mobility by providing options for using environmentally friendly transport modes such as bicycles, walking paths, public transportation, and electric vehicles. This helps reduce the carbon footprint and contributes to a cleaner environment.
  • Eco-Friendly Printing and Recycled Materials
All printed materials are produced using eco-friendly and recycled materials. We work to reduce paper and waste consumption while promoting sustainable practices in all our business processes.
  • Education and Awareness
RCMS actively promotes educational activities and workshops for visitors, local communities, and tourism workers to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable behavior. Our efforts include organizing events and campaigns that encourage environmental responsibility and waste reduction.
  • Green Certifications and Environmental Labels
We encourage our partners and providers in the destination to obtain green certifications and environmental labels, such as Ecolabel, Green Key, and others. This effort aims to expand sustainable practices at all levels of tourism and other economic sectors.
  • Digitalization and Reducing Paper Use
We increasingly promote the digitalization of our services and documentation, encouraging guests to use digital tickets, maps, and information, thereby reducing the need for paper and contributing to a lower environmental footprint.
  • Supporting Local Craftspeople and Producers
RCMS is committed to promoting the sale of local products in our store and TIC (Tourist Information Center), thereby supporting local craftspeople, artists, and producers. All our sales activities focus on offering products that are ecological, handmade, or locally sourced and that reflect elements of local tradition, culture, and heritage.
  • Promoting Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Local Products
In our store and TIC, we actively promote sustainable and eco-friendly products, such as organically grown foods, natural cosmetics, clothing made from recycled materials, and other products in line with sustainable development principles. This allows visitors to make responsible choices that support environmental conservation and the local economy.
